Essential Care for Your New Tattoo: The Ultimate Guide

You have just walked out of Kuyen Art in Palma de Mallorca with a piece of art on your skin. Congratulations! But the work doesn’t end here. The way you care for your tattoo over the next few weeks will determine how it looks for the rest of your life.
In this article, we explain step by step how to guarantee perfect healing.
1. The First 24 Hours
Once the tattoo is finished, we apply a protective bandage (plastic wrap or second skin).
- Plastic wrap: Keep it on for 2-4 hours. When you remove it, gently wash the area with lukewarm water and mild soap.
- Second Skin: You can leave it on for 3 to 5 days, as instructed by your tattoo artist. If it starts peeling off or fluid gets inside, remove it.
2. Cleaning and Hydration
Hygiene is key to preventing infection.
- Wash the tattoo 2-3 times a day with water and mild soap.
- Dry with a paper towel by dabbing gently (never rub!).
- Apply a thin layer of specific aftercare ointment (like Bepanthen or the one we recommend at the studio). Do not saturate the skin; it needs to breathe.
3. What to Avoid (Very Important!)
During the first 2 weeks:
- ❌ Do not scratch or pick at scabs. You will ruin the design.
- ❌ Avoid direct sunlight. UV rays degrade the ink.
- ❌ No pools, beaches, or saunas. Water with chlorine, salt, or bacteria is the enemy of an open wound.
